“We take photographs as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone”
Disco agreed to sit for his portrait today. What a good bird!

On a very quite, still, foggy January morning, at Mountain Island Lake just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, I noticed this guy quickly and silently gliding across the smooth glass-like water. It looked like a ton of fun, and I was envious enough to momentary consider trading my camera for his kayak.
I love taking photos of ducks and shorebirds because of the effect of light reflecting on the water. It makes the water silver and mirror-like. In the shadow of this American Avocet (winter plumage) you can see underneath the water's surface. Shot taken in San Diego in January 2017.
Bahama Pintail. Huntsville, Alabama October 2016. Photo by Chuck Chamberlin In October two of my sisters and a brother-in-law visited from Texas. My older sister Janet has taken up birding and she was interested in seeing and photographing birds to add to her list for 2016. I guaranteed her that we would see at least one bird in Huntsville that she didn't have on her list. This little guy was photographed at a local park and he helped me make good on my promise.

South Padre Island sunrise, 2005. Brings to mind the old adage "red sky in morning, sailor take warning." The morning red seen in this photo was Hurricane Rita slowly moving across the Gulf of Mexico towards Corpus Christi, Texas. The storm would later make a northward turn and strike land near Port Arthur and the Texas/Louisiana border. Photo by Chuck Chamberlin
Terlingua, Texas – (Sept 27, 2008) If you find yourself in Big Bend National Park and you get tired of your own camp cooking, do what I do. Buzz on over to Terlingua and visit the Starlight Theatre. Actually, it is a restaurant housed inside of an old 1930’s movie theatre, but they do have live music (locals) some nights and occasionally well-known artists stop by.
